Also announced at this event was the creation of a group of experts on digital universes to represent law enforcement in the new virtual world. Interpol concluded that the growth in the number of users and virtual worlds will be accompanied by an increase in digital crimes. These include data theft, money laundering, fraud. As well as extortion, phishing, sexual harassment and stalking.

At the same time, Metaverse brings many benefits to law enforcement, Interpol noted. Among them were the ability to work remotely, networking, collecting and preserving evidence and training.

During the demo, experts conducted a training course on checking travel documents and screening passengers in Metaverse class. Then students went to digital airport. There they were able to apply the acquired skills at the virtual border checkpoint.

Earlier, Interpol announced the creation of a cryptocurrency crime unit. The team, based in Singapore, will assist law enforcement agencies in different countries in investigations related to digital assets.

Interpol has created a specialized unit to combat crimes related to cryptocurrency and other virtual assets, reports Business-Standard. The creation of the unit was announced by Secretary General of the International Police Jürgen Stock. This was said at a press conference before the start of Interpol’s 90th jubilee General Assembly. It takes place in Delhi from 18 to 21 October.

The main problem faced by law enforcement agencies of different countries in their investigations, the head of Interpol called the lack of a legal framework with regard to assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The new team, formed in Singapore, will help fight crimes in this area in different countries. Currently, the international police force has more than 190 member states.
